So today we visited salou beach , it’s a totally different experience for ASD parents it’s not relaxing you don’t get to sit down , set up camp at the beach , you keep moving , as Autistic kids especially mine loves water, knows no danger and will just dive in fully clothed if they get the feeling that’s what they want to do , Oscar wears a safety back pack around any water, as it’s his thing, he doesn’t seem to mind wet cold clothes at all , he has in the past got in a water fountain at London zoo in October!
The sea although he loves it scares the hell out of me , it excites him he lives in the now and he’s quick , he wears a safety rein at all times and I hold it and his hand , so a typical visit to the beach for us will be to go on the beach run around , walk along go to the shore splash , paddle, dive, swim, pick up stones of explore the sand it’s a very quick thing 45 mins of your lucky from start to finish as he gets so excited he can get overloaded , or attempt to steal the lifeguards surf board , eat seaweed or get stuck in sinking mud
i have left the beach many times in a struggle which is hard, as it looks like I’m trying to abduct him , he struggles with finished , he also likes to walk on a straight line and today took lots of coaxing and playing to get him to change direction ,as we were almost in the next town, but today he paddled , dropped to his knees but no diving in he did actually say cold too , which I feel is huge progress
Im also really happy I didn’t have to get in the sea fully clothed
