We got stuck inside a lift ( blogging now then leaving it there)

After being in spain on a mini holiday for 5 days getting up and out was never going to easy, especially as Oscar who has complex Autism stayed awake till midnight just trying to piss the angry Spanish lady next door off just a bit more than she already was , so Oscar finally passed out around 1230 Spanish time so 1130 our time not unheard off for Oscar at all, but having to be up dressed and out by 9 I was dreading it plus absolutely knackered myself and aching all over after spending 5 days pushing Oscar in his buggy which he is really just too big for now ,everything seemed uphill too I don’t know how but we did it ,

So we all got up on time and Bren took the luggage to the car, then came back to us all ready to go Oscar medicated, regulated and happy with his iPad in the buggy , we have just one case and one hold-all left to carry between us , I though this is good we are winning here !!!!!

So we go to reception into the lift all four of us three standing Oscar in the buggy it’s tight the doors close , brendan selects the floor -1 ) so we are going down one floor the lift starts to move then stops the entire control panel has no lights it’s all digital , gone black, he hits the contact button , no answer , trying not to panic I said ok try it again, the buttons are making noises but no lights , it suddenly feels like we are trapped in this tiny lift I can’t even lift my arms up, lorcan is panicking now a lot and I can see brendan is becoming hot and bothered so we hit the alarm , Oscar finds this hilarious and selects a song on his iPad which is on full volume and in a small space very loud he is having a bloody cebeebies rave living life , I’ve got him in front of me and lorcan to my right who has started to panic , Orlas pissing herself laughing probably nerves and brendan is starting to get stressed and has the sweats , he can’t take his shirt off he hasn’t room, he’s pressing the speakers ‘Hello? Is anyone f✌ cking coming ?to help us  a very polite , quite spainish person answered and said ‘ello sir which room are you in?’ Now brendan is a really. patient guy but he’s starting to get really worked up by now because every time the guy speaks on the speaker Oscar puts the iPad on full volume and he can’t hear him there was a lot of stress in one small lift we are pressing the alarm no one is coming , one final time brendan hits the speakers and says I can’t bloody hear you , we are in the lift your speakers are shit and again we get ‘ello what room are you in ‘ , then he looses it and starts to try and open the doors of the lift himself , it’s very clear after half an hour no one is coming and we are going to miss our flight , lorcan is freaking out hyperventilating and saying things that’s are really helpful like ‘ we’re All going to die in here!!!!!

’ Bren somehow managed to get his fingers inside the door and force it open and we could see we were about 5 ft from the stop we needed he started calling and someone came , I have to say the air that came in to the lift was really welcomed it was getting very stuffy in there with 5 of us , so we threw the bags out first as they were last in ,one case one hold-all then lorcan leapt out, no shits given he was getting out of that lift no matter what , then followed by orla helped out by a German couple  just stood there staring at us like WTF! Helping us out, unable to believe there eyes that a family of five including a disability buggy with two bags could fit in a tiny lift  .

I was next I have to get out so Oscar could jump to me we couldn’t risk him jumping to Bren incase he refused , daddy’s not even allowed to push the buggy so I was helped out then I turned to get Oscar who brendan had unclipped from his buggy , he was reluctant to even jump to me it was high and getting out of a lift when you can see the underneath part isn’t fun , but he did it , brendan then jumped out dropping his wallet that very nearly went in the gap underneath!!!!! all out reassuring the older kids before we drove to the airport hoping traffic is kind , we made the flight just it was full and doors had been shut we were last on and it took off instantly .

What I’m taking from this is never get in a lift alone in a quiet place and make your kids use the stairs , we were lucky to not be there all day , no harm done , but it just proves how much we all value space and freedom even if parenting a child with complex needs restricts us we do still value what we have .

So we enter the airport on time ( we thought) we got a bit lost after using the disability security and ended up having to get back in a lift , we were not all keen on that and decided to split some on stairs ,some in lift with an agreement if I do not arrive go get help!

We finally got to the gate and I can see in front of us some official looking people no Que!!! Yes that’s right the plane was full and doors were shut it was about to leave , after begging them to allow us on we enter the plane I’m wearing a mask , glasses and I’m holding up in front of me my son age 8 wearing an autism army T shirt as if to say ‘todays the day you let this go people’ and that’s as that we were homebound! My husbands aged 25 years since 9 am.

and poor Oscar was used as a human shield for the greater good ✌ ✌ ✌

I think about all the situations we get into as a family and do think I hope this is just enough dysfunction to give resilience and a sense of humour !

We always have something on the way home from Spain

Last time we all followed brendan’s lead and got stuck in a glass box ! And the time before we lost our passports on the flights and got detained on the plane!

I think we will stay home a while now .
