I’ve blogged before about eating it’s the most worrying thing with Autism , even worse when it’s Autism and being poorly , sensory eating goes out the window my Oscar shuts down , not a morsel to pass his lips in 7 days he’s drinking but that’s it , I must admit he’s not lost that much weight and I’m assured by the doctor that his appetite will return ,but it’s day 8 tomorrow he’s refusing food and I’m worried , I’m really worried , it doesn’t just stop because someone says so , a whole week and not one cracker!
Sensory eating and being tube fed are not the same battle or worry , oscars eating is disorderly he gets hungry and strange times because his body clock is out of sync , but it takes him a very long time to accept new foods each time he’s poorly we have to build his trust up again for instance, he will cut foods out , one of the main things he used to love was organic carrot bars then in the summer he became poorly and refused to eat them after that, and still won’t , as he only eats 5 foods total daily and won’t accept anything new offered, it’s my biggest fear that it’s now been so long he doesn’t trust any of them and refuses food , the knock on effect of him not eating is he can’t have his full doses of medication for epilepsy or anxiety , and it’s just so hard to know is it now fear of eating or is he still just not hungry after a viral infection .
food and eating has to be the hardest thing for me to deal with I’ve accepted his eating is disorderly, but when he totally refuses it’s a whole new battle , some children with Autism are tube fed this breaks my heart .
I’m remaining hopeful for tomorrow
