Oscar has already been to the dentist for a check up ,it was actually easier than I though , I had built up a really bad anxiety over it , because he is so anxious I requested he be referred to a specialist dentist with experience with ASD ,as I felt if we had one traumatic visit to a regular dentist that had short patience with him or something, then that could set the tone for future visits and everything’s difficult with Autism when it’s new and unknown , if there is an easier option I will take that thanks .
so we waited around 6 mths for the specialist dentist and the day came I was really nervous, as he hated new professionals and can become violent and unmanageable through fear , I took some pictures so I can make him a memory book as with 6 months between appointments he’s likely to forget , my autistic child tends to hold onto negative experiences but not always the positive ones!!!
So we arrive the waiting room is empty he walks around exploring with his tablet in one hand, it’s a new place so he’s using it to distract himself , we are called in the sweetest lady dentist with the calmest voice ever calls us in , she says he doesn’t have to sit on the chair if he doesn’t want to I actually sat in the chair Oscar jumped on my lap , the lady explained on the first visit that they just say hi try and look in his mouth but don’t worry too much if he doesn’t want to, Oscar just sat and opened his mouth and let her look inside! No cavities no concerns very good teeth , and rightly so as Oscar only drank water until age 3 or milk ,and he doesn’t like anything sugary at all, no sweets no chocolate no ice cream he won’t touch them not even cake!!!!!!!! and I think it’s really benefitted him , so we are just waiting for them to get wobbly now ,which could be early as ASD kids can have accelerated growth . the wobbly bit could be interesting!
oscar has 22 teeth by 14 months, he cut each tooth, 4 teeth at a time! Which wasn’t fun in the biting stage ! He didn’t really have stuggles with teething , they would just appear it was really odd .
I really hope he keeps his baby teeth a while they are really cute, there tiny
