Oscars still in nappies he’s five, I think that medically classes him as doubly incontinent , he wears nappies provided by tena as he has big man wees and soaks through regular nappies, he has had one delivery of these since he was awarded free ones last July , it seems to be a very complicated system we are lost in ,and so I just order them online £48 for pack of 8×24 nappies and they dont last long ,as I want him to be clean he gets sore , the allocation for the ones supplied are 3 a day so that would cover until around 11am but if we ever get anymore arrive at the door I wouldn’t turn them away.
I’m not sure why everything is so expensive to be honest you can buy 105 nappies for £10 in supermarkets! It’s unfair that when faced with no choice people put the prices up , it’s a bit crappy, excuse the pun .
Being in nappies at 5 ,is ok just passable ,he could after all be a giant toddler , I sometimes think there might be some progress with toilet training, he certainly doesn’t like me changing him , we tend to show a little bit that we are aware sometimes, but then it doesn’t really go anywhere , and I am aware that some people with Autism do not ever get dry , but I do hope for Oscar he will even, if it’s just in the day time , we talk about big boy pants and his face lights up ,I talk about his favourite characters on his big boy pants , and I have even on occasion put a pair on him , he just wees everywhere and refuses the potty , I think it’s just beginning to become something, he will do when he is ready , I’m used to packing a nappy bag everywhere we go and have mastered the art of changing standing up , which is no mean feat, if it’s a dodgy poo but we get by , it’s something I have worried about , gave up worrying about and now I’m waiting for him to show me the slightest understanding that he’s aware he’s going , as without that we have no starting point .
Currently we have a large map on the wall of the downstairs toilet that he likes looking at ,so I’m encouraging him to sit on the loo fully clothed so the toilet becomes familiar , he has sat there once in the last 6 mths so I know he can do it , once we have some progress there we can move forward .

Just let him run about with no bottom half on!!!!!! he will find the potty! Err no he won’t!!! he will crap all over the sofa and slip over in his own wee!
Just put potty’s everywhere all around the house! why? He will either throw them , wear them or fall over them!
Just switch him over to pants he won’t like being wet? actually he wont know he will just get sore and walk like John Wayne !
That’s just a few funny things people say! Why do people feel that need to say anything!
My child has delayed development he’s got his own adgenda ,his body has its own adgenda , he will toilet train I’m sure , when? I don’t know ,
You get used to not having all the answers and working with what you have , I’ve never met anyone in adulthood that have asked me or disclosed the age they were dry at!
It’s ok to not have the answers yet , I think we need to remember that guys .
Potty training in Autism from what I’ve seen needs to be simple ,to understand with visual clues and a good routine and consistent , there are some great resources online I hope to use soon !
