it was oscars 5 th birthday not so long ago and although he had a day out ,on Thomas the tank with family ,I feel age 5 is a biggy it’s the big 5, we haven’t met all our milestones on time yet, but even so he goes to big boy school ,with his friends , he’s in a class of ten including him they have ten teachers, he attends a special school , a patient primary school as I call it, in many ways it’s a school as firstly it follows the national curriculum, it just amends for special education in line with his EHCP ( education, health care plan) this is a legal document that has to be adhered too, by the school set by Kent local authority, based on their findings by an educational psychologist assessment is 20 weeks long , it is also reviewed regularly, the idea is assessing and identifying needs of children within the education sysytem for children with additional needs is seemless , this doesn’t always go to plan but that’s another blog in itself .
however it’s compulsary education which feels a bit mean considering his needs and lack of understanding .
anyway trailed off slightly there , so I wanted oscar to have invitations to give out, and have a regular birthday celebration, turned out today was a day off school so I booked up the trampoline park for him and his pals , they had an hours bouncing and really enjoyed it, children with autism can’t wait they can see it and want it right now, those pathways in the brain to reason are just not there so we had a very stressful time waiting to enter this morning, as they had to watch a safety video first it’s the rules according to the lady! Ten non verbal children all screaming while the rest of the people in there couldn’t hear a thing! Great so now knowone knows the rules lets go! Seemed crazy all the children with autism are with adults the whole time , I felt this was unflexiable and showed zero understanding for the children’s needs or the parents having to deal with the behaviour of the children, as from there view they want to go bounce but they have been shut in a room , they can see the trampoline but can’t go on them!
Anyway that said they did have a great time once inside , it feels great when we are able to attend a regular session for something like that, we’re doing normal look at us we blend in truth is we don’t at all we’re running crazy but behaviour gets lost in vast spaces I find, almost like an alarm inside him an hour in Oscar wants buggy , juice ,and to get the heck outta there , feeling brave one of the other mums suggests we go sit in macdonalds!! Now this could have gone drastically wrong oscars at his limit , so we go there with no fuss it’s quiet , Oscar stays in his buggy and eats half a bun and french fries remember he’s only eaten cooked food twice before both times fries , so we pulled it off today we did normal
very proud of Oscar today he finds stuff hard but is coping with it
today we won his first birthday party
invitations were sent
he spent time with his friends
he gave out party bags
he sat in a restaurant and ate
winning
